Picture Saturday || August {3)

Two posts in a week! Magical!

I don't know, I think I might have to do a life-update post soon, because I did some exciting/scary things, and I want to tell you about them.

I'm freaking my friends out, because this whole week, our conversations have gone like this:

Friend: What are you up to?
Me: Listening to musicals...
Friend: Again!?
Me: ...... You act like that's a bad thing.

Honestly, between Kat, Bella, and I, we've discovered like... five new musicals that we hadn't heard before. Like did you know there's a really awesome 'Count of Monte Cristo' musical? And one that's based on the original story behind 'You've Got Mail'?

And in between listening to new musicals, I've been listening to my favorites over again, and just...

Ugh. There's something about musical, guys. A story told through music! What's not to love?

Anyway....

1.) Look at Jack Frost and his fabulousness. (In all honesty, if you haven't seen that movie, you should, because it's really good.)

2.) Also... Merida. Because she has hair like whoa.

3.) I tried and didn't quite pull off the Cinderella Transformation.

4.) Gwen from Merlin has such pretty, pretty eyes.

5.) This random sad kid...

6.) We listened to 'Ghost the Musical', which is based on the movie... (which I've never seen...) AND WOW, EMOTIONS. There's some things I'm not hugely keen on, like this one song has a good 2 minutes worth of swearing... BUT I CRIED LIKE A FOOL. IT'S PRETTY.

His nose needs work, but I'mma fix it when I color this in....

7.) AND DON'T SPEAK TO ME, I'M SO MAD THAT I DREW THIS, I DON'T EVEN LIKE 'HAMILTON'. I don't like Alexander, I don't like the music! I don't like it. (But it's so freaking catchy...) And that doesn't take away from the fact that hot dang, Eliza deserved a way better man than Alexander Hamilton.

8.) In other news, someone officially threatened me to force me into not killing off one of the boys in my book. (She threatened to burn my art. RUDE!)

Max likes to tease Kate, and sometimes Kate rolls with it, and other times she'd happily strangle him.

9.) I'm finally able to draw fanart for the Tale of Two Cities musical... which is good, I guess, because Bella has been hounding me for some, and I just couldn't for a while.

10.) SUCH ANGER, MADAME DEFARGE!

11.) And finally, here, enjoy Sydney making a jolly fool of himself, even though he had the best of intentions. (Seriously, James Barbour rocked that role, he is golden.)

Do you see his scarf!? Do you see how cute and perfect her hands turned out?! *Covers face* This almost makes up for he Hamilton fanart.

Holla! Questions!
Best overall?
Favorite black and white?

Let me tell you a thing.

Once upon a time, about 10-12 years ago, there was this really obnoxious girl.

I kind of super hated her.

My family was the only one by this big apartment complex, and because we had a pretty nice sized yard with a cool swing set, it wasn't uncommon for the kids living in the apartments to come over and play. (We'd have at least 15 to 20 kids over on a regular basis.) And seeing as I was the oldest girl playing in our yard, I was in charge.

I was the Queen Bee. The neighborhood was my turf. I owned the joint, see?

And then there was this girl. Her family moved up from LA into a house down the street from us, and since we were about the same age, our parents thought it would be a great idea for us to be friends. Well... we weren't; in fact, we took a pretty much instant dislike to each other.

She was used to being in charge, and I was also used to being in charge. So she'd come down to our house to "play," and she'd try to take over. She'd make up rules, she'd boss the apartment kids around, she thought she knew everything. Excuse me? That was my job! I made up the rules! I bossed people around! I knew everything! I was the queen bee! And this... this twerp was invading my kingdom!

We clashed all the time. Rules for baseball? Nah, didn't agree. Playing house? Um, there actually aren't rules to that game, okay? Running away from the Orphanage? (Yes, that's a very popular game for lots of little kids.) Yes, hello, hi, I GET TO BE THE EVIL ORPHANAGE LADY, OKAY? OKAY.

This rivalry went on for a good, oh I don't know, four or five years? We didn't fight constantly, but we definitely had strong opinions about how things should be run, and there was a certain cattiness when we disagreed. (We disagreed a lot.)

It was a hard-fought battle for supremacy.

Then when we were about twelve, both of our families started doing home remodels at the same time. We took out a wall, they added a bigger kitchen... You know how it is: exhausting, stressful, dust every-freaking-where. UGH.

Anyway, the same guy who was working on their house was working on ours. He was a jerk. He was unprofessional and rude, and had mood swings worse than a teenage girl. (Like, bro, get a grip.) So, he eventually ended up swindling both our families, he quit, threw a few tantrums, he called my mom some interesting names... (Like let me tell you, I almost hit him with a hammer, because NO ONE TALKS TO MY MOMMY LIKE THAT, CAPISCE?)

And that was when this obnoxious, bossy girl and I finally had something in common.

"You hate him!? I ALSO HATE HIM!"

Sammi and I have been best friends ever since.

Sammi is family.

She's my best pal, we've seen each other through thick and thin, from mutual hate of the handyman, to her being a solid brick wall of support when my family went through some killer hard times back in 2012.

From her dealing with my downright creepy obsession with Dean Winchester to her losing her dad to cancer a couple years ago.

We've seen each other through the best of times, to the worst of times, from when she won the Tahoe's Got Talent competition, (which is why she now has the nickname Liquid Velvet) to mutual emotional breakdowns over stress and personal issues.

I was there when she tried to use curlers to style her hair like the forties. (Which ultimately resulted in an afro)

She was there when I made the poor choice to be Rainbow Dash for Halloween, and ended up with a very orange head, and a very brown braid. (To which I repeat: Never. Again.)

But literally every time I needed her, she's been there, because that's just who she is.

Yesterday, she packed up her car and she headed off to college, and she's going to be eight hours away for quite a long time. She's studying to be a worship leader, and honestly, I couldn't be prouder.

She's off being all grown up and fabulous, and I'm like, "Ra ra ra! You can do it!"

But in the back of my mind I'm like, "Ugh, this is the longest time ever we've gone without seeing each other, how am I supposed to deal with this nonsense?"

Mostly, I'm proud of her.

That other 20% is already ready for her to come back.

Just feeling a little melancholy, and I do not want my best friend to be gone.

SO UGH. She's coming home for Thanksgiving, which I think is a good plan, because A.) I miss her, and B.) I miss her. Until then I intend to keep her occupied with texts and messages and snapchats, because I have a prescription grade need for attention.

When's Thanksgiving again?

Treskie out.

Picture Saturday || August {2}

Well, I'm having trouble posting more than every two weeks.

In my defense I've been working a lot.

And I'm super exhausted.

#toomanyexcuses

But I have some really cool art this week! (At least I think I do.)

I'm starting to feel like I need to get a more professional way of showcasing my work, because I basically vomit it out there, and that's not very good.

Also, I've been getting a few requests for drawing tutorials, but I'm not super confident with that. Would you guys be interested in seeing a drawing time-lapse video?

Right okay, art.

1.) I've been playing with color more often, because I like color. It's just hard.... and time-consuming.

2.) Also, cute kissing pictures!

3.) This odd one that I'm not sure about. I really like the green-ish skin tone, but other than that, I'm not sure.

4.) Look at this li'l mommy. 'Cause, mommies.

5.) AND OKAY SO CAN WE TALK ABOUT MERLIN AND FREYA AND HOW CUTE AND DEPRESSING THAT EPISODE WAS?

I kind of drew this one while I was watching, so proportions are a little off, but I like the overall effect.

6.) This one I drew on the Assumption. I'm a little cranky, because Chloe bumped me when I was coloring her hair, and so now her face is too small. BUT, I had to draw it, because there was a Black Mass performed in Oklahoma, on the Feast of the Assumption, desecrating Our Lady, and it really ticked me off.

7.) Okay, I'm really proud of this Rapunzel one, because the colors are spot on, and her hair makes me happy.

8.) I was sort of enthralled by hair this week.

9.) Also, while re-watching Merlin, I've discovered that a lot of people really hate Arthur, and that's sad, because he's a good character. He's arrogant, sure, but he's good-hearted, and he gets a bad rap all 'round. So here, have a picture of him being cute with Gwen.

10.) And why not color it? WHY NOT?

11.) And then I found this picture on pinterest, and I really liked the whole look of it, so I copied it shamelessly.

I'm going to try to be more consistent with posting, I don't know why I'm having so much trouble posting every week, but it's getting really out of hand. *coughs delicately*

Random aside: we went and watched Alex Ramon's "IMpossible" a few weeks ago. He's really good, and really funny, and he did this POSE and I want to draw SO BADLY, and I can't find a reference picture anywhere. It's driving me crazy! If you get a chance, you should watch this video, because it's fun.

Alrighty, question time!

Picture Saturday || August {1}

You know those coffee shops that everyone is always talking about? Right? The cute, small ones with warm, welcoming atmospheres where you can go get a coffee, and sit with a book or pencil and paper, and they're just... perfect?

We finally have one of those in town.

It's wonderful.

I have never gone to coffee so much before.

Also, I know the owner and her daughter. (Y'all know of Sammi, right?)

It also sells wine and food and delicious freaking paninis like whoa.

Currently it's my favorite foody/drinky place in town. Wow.

Anyway, moving on.

Somehow, I forgot to post last week. I feel like I had a reason, but I can't remember what it was. (It was very important, I think.)

But anyway, I promised my sister I would try to draw a "realistic" one with a big family. She gave me the whole layout, and I'm gonna give it my best shot, but it's a little daunting so I didn't do it this week. (I know, I'm so efficient.)

1.) Instead, I did this. (Which I feel is wrong, since I wasn't hugely wild about Frozen.)

LET IT GOOOOO, LET IT GOOOOO, CAN'T HOLD IT BACK ANYMORE, LET IT GO, LET IT GO!
TURN AWAY AND SLAM THE DOOR! (And now that's stuck in your head, you're welcome.)

2.) And then I listened to Gentleman's Guide again, and started laughing, because there's this part in one of the songs, where Monty's voice cuts above everyone else's and all you hear is "Of course! A CONSCIENCE, I ASSUME!" That gave me this perfect image of Monty waving his saw around like a buffoon, and I've been itching to draw it for ages.

3.) I watched the single most depressing movie ever, with Colin Morgan and that kid from Kingsmen. The trailer made it look so good, but everyone died. I think if I hadn't been led to believe that at least one of the lived, I would have liked it more, but as it was, I was like, "Surely her brother won't die. She just saved him in France." and then he died. And then it ended. And I was like, "Buzz kill." so yeah. However, the leading lady was awfully pretty.

4.) And Colin Morgan's hair was on point.

And so I felt inclined to draw it. Wow, so first of all, EW, HAIR. And second of all, WHOA, TEETH ARE HARD.

Was this a bust? Yes. Yes it was. Am I gonna try again, because Colin-Morgan's-hair-in-that-movie-is-just-perfection? Yes. Yes I am.

I don't even know what happened, but something went terribly wrong. Like, why are his eyes so much darker than the rest of the picture? Ew! (And don't even get me started on the teeth. *Luke Skywalker No*

5.) But then I was like, "Colin Morgan's face is interesting. I'mma rewatch Merlin." (Seriously though, he has cheekbones that could cut glass.)

6.) I showed my nieces The Rescuers because they'd never seen the whole thing, and when Medusa tells Penny she's homely, Sam the Toink was so indignant. "Why did she say that? That's so rude! That's! That's mean!"

7.) I tried do a thing. (I was too lazy to finish coloring it this week so I fiddled with it on picmonkey and I'm not sure what's going on.)

8.) And and now, because Disney, have some Tangled love, because it's better than Frozen. (Not totally happy with Flynn, but Rapunzel's hair is sparkly.)

Mhmm. Alright that's all I have this week. My li'l sisters came up to visit and I haven't had time to draw, but oh well.

Right, talk to me!
